The process of setting up a book for a Kindle Countdown deal is relatively straightforward. There are several factors to take into account:
Countdown Deals are permissible only for books enrolled in Amazon’s Kindle Unlimited (KU) programme
You can run one of each Deal type every three months. So, one Countdown and one Free promotion every quarter
Deals run for up to five days
When running a price reduction Deal then authors earn the same royalty percentage as they normally would. I.e. for books priced at £1.99 / $2.99 and above, so earning the 70% royalty, then the discounted price also earns at 70%
In this example, I’m running a promotion on Dig Two Graves.
First, open up your KDP bookshelf and navigate to the book you want to promote. Hover over the three dots, as per the screenshot below, which will open up a new window. Select ‘Promote and Advertise’.
Which brings you into the Campaign section. Scroll down briefly until you see the section ‘Run a Price Promotion’. You can toggle between running a free promotion, or a price reduction.
In this case we’re running the latter, so ensure the toggle for ‘Kindle Countdown Deal’ is highlighted before hitting the big yellow button to move on.
